Chicken or egg

Professor Brookfield said: "The first living thing which we could say unequivocally was a member of the species would be this first egg, so I would conclude that the egg came first."

Do we really want to know that the egg came before the chicken, or do we just enjoy the puzzle?

But now we can wonder what eggs and kangaroos have in common?

"If a kangaroo laid an egg from which an ostrich hatched, that would surely be an ostrich egg, not a kangaroo egg," he added.

Or maybe we just need to find our own favourite fact among "100 things we didn't know last year"

Bring on 2007!

Lost Toolbox

You occasionally see the lost cat or lost dog, reward offered, notices stuck to trees or gateposts. However, on the 24th we drove through one of our local villages where a 'Lost Toolbox' sign was stuck to a post.

It was right on a bend so I didn't get to read the fine print, but it may have read something along the lines of:

Lost Toolbox
If found please call owner on xxxxxxxxx,
who is missing his toolbox very much.

Toolboxes, along with powertools are quite popular Christmas presents. Did anyone get a second hand toolbox?

Christmas shopping

I bought a book for 99p... the history of herring.

As we finished most of our Christmas shopping in October/November I thought a book about herring was appropriate. After all, a lot of pickled herring is eaten where I come from at Christmas.
